As noted in our previous post, ‘Independent’ Commons Committee Chair accused of breaking parliamentary rules, we had to delay sharing our written evidence to the Commons Education Committee’s Home Education Inquiry until it had been accepted and published on the UK Parliament website.
We have now received notification that it can be accessed here.
A total of 111 submissions have now been published, which we understand is a tiny fraction of responses to this inquiry, whose chair, Robert Halfon MP, has already shamelessly demonstrated his partiality by pre-empting the outcome.
It is well worth visiting HE-Byte for fulsome and incisive commentary on some of the published submissions, notably by Unicef and others whose ill-informed and overtly home-eduphobic views have no place in a modern civilised society that is said to be underpinned by human rights and respect for the family, which
…as the fundamental group of society and the natural environment for the growth and well-being of all its members and particularly children, should be afforded the necessary protection and assistance so that it can fully assume its responsibilities within the community. (UNCRC).
Families’ responsibilities, it should be remembered, include determining the best interests and ensuring the suitable and efficient education of their children with support from, not interference by, the state.
