Errors spotted in government attendance guidance

Errors have been spotted in Scottish Government guidance Included, engaged and involved part 1: promoting and managing school attendance (‘Measures for Compulsory Compliance’, section 7).

It is education that is compulsory, school is not. Only enrolled pupils are subject to compulsory attendance, not every child of compulsory education age. Sloppy language is not acceptable (especially by government and children’s rights cheerleaders), and accuracy should not be too much to ask.

It’s also why we want to ban ‘homeschooling’ and ‘deregistration’ (terms that do not apply in Scotland) and deplore the conflation of school/education, welfare/wellbeing and rights/state diktat.
