This presentation, by psychologist Dr Paula Rothermel, reports on the comparative performance of reception-aged, school- and home educated children in the UK on PIPS baseline assessments.
Paula assessed home educated children aged between four and five years, from diverse socio-economic backgrounds, using the Performance Indicators in Primary Schools (Start and End of Reception), and compared their results with schooled peers. She found that the reported leap in learning generally associated with early schooling was present in the home educated cohort and further, that they outperformed their schooled counterparts.
